As our families have grown, this has also of course influenced the way we travel! We still go, and still try to have at least one big family trip with the whole extended family yearly but this year we realized that instead of spending an obscene amount of hotel accommodation we should try something new. So in order to be more cost effective but still get the feeling of being all together, we went for trying to find something to rent through AirBnB! I had heard good things about this site and straight away we found a few options that would easily accommodate our large group, 3 kids & 7 adults. It was also interesting to experience a new way of accommodating ourselves, living in someones apartment and having the experience of interacting with the hosts.
The choice for us ended up being this luxury loft, Loft Lycklama. A spacious, modern beautiful loft at a central location, close to the beach and Palais the Festivals in Cannes and at the same time offering parking space for 2 cars. The loft offered a number of comfortable extras such as washing machine, dishwasher, wine fridge, espresso machine, microwave oven, baby cots for the little ones, large screen and projector and the most important feature for a clan of entrepreneurs and company owners, access to high speed WiFi!
The only downside with the loft was that you need some seriously mad parking skills to be able to get a 7 seated van through those garage doors from a very narrow street (with on-street parked vehicles as well!). For our arrival the host generously helped us get both cars in, but we did go for a few day trips which meant that there was a hassle and challenge each time you were getting the big car in and out of those doors. Each time we managed there was a celebration with applause and champagne! So my advice would be to rent a small car… the location is good enough to skip the car all together but I just love the freedom of being able to explore the surroundings.
Based on our experience I would definitely recommend Loft Lycklama and also AirBnb for that matter, they both contributed greatly to making this trip a great success for us all! So do dare to rent and experience some variety in ways to experience a destination.
